Ceramics & Sculpture
What's it all about?
In this subject, students are introduced to the fundamentals of hand-building ceramic construction and various sculptural techniques. They create both sculptural and functional forms using diverse art forms and processes. Investigation and exploration of ideas, skills, and techniques are emphasized, along with processes related to the elements and principles of art. Students develop their ability to evaluate the works of Ceramic and Sculptural artists. They are encouraged to develop personal creativity by utilising mixed three-dimensional methods, materials, and techniques. Through these explorations, students investigate and apply ideas, skills, and techniques to create original works.
What type of things will I do?
A range of both sculptural and functional forms are designed and created. Students observe, research and critically discuss contemporary, historical and cultural examples of ceramic works.
What will I learn?
Hand building techniques of coil, pinch, mould and slab construction.
