Creation Action and Advocacy

What's it all about?

Creative Action and Advocacy in the Arts, encourages students to think critically, creatively, and strategically about how to use their developed art skills for positive awareness, change and problem solving. The course helps students to understand the role of creativity in social and political movements and provides practical tools for effective advocacy in the form of Studio Works and Exhibition Presentation. “You don’t have to change the world - just change your world.” - Joan Trumpauer Mulholland.

What type of things will I do?

Investigating advocacy in the Arts as well as investigating various global and local issues. Analysis of Arts and Media creative expressions - such as artwork and the moving image to communicate messages and advocate for change.

· Create Artworks that express an awareness of Social, Political and Cultural issues.

· Learn Art skills to develop ways of presenting themes and ideas.

· Advocacy project - Speak out on an issue that is important to you via creative expression.

· Action project- Organise and participate in a project to make change in your community.

What will I learn?

TOPIC 1: Advocacy though ‘Theme’ Development and Mind maps (Keeping a Visual Journal) – ‘WHO AM I’.

TOPIC 2: Cultural, Political and Social connections to the Art World.

TOPIC 3: Develop an understanding of Art skills by exploring, selecting, applying and manipulating techniques, technologies and processes

TOPIC 4: Explore, imagine, experiment and express ideas, concepts, themes, values, beliefs, observation and experience in artworks

 Art Elements and Principles Research Project (Visual Journal and art making practices)

What can this lead to?

University and TAFE courses in Education (Teaching), Community projects, Environmental management, Environmental policy, Transport Planning, Surveying and Resource Management.
