Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)

Mandatory.

40 hours (per year) of work placement is required to fulfil the assessment requirements of this program.

Your school may require their students to undertake additional hours of SWL in order to claim a unit credit for VCE.

Course Description

The Certificate III in Early Childhood Education & Care program provides students with a significant introduction to the knowledge, skills and attributes required to work in early childhood education.

Units of Competency selected for VCE Units 1&2 introduce the frameworks that early learning centres operate in, as well as a First Aid unit.

Units of Competency selected for VCE Units 3&4 add skills and knowledge for working with children.

At the end of this program students have the option of continuing their enrolment as adults in order to complete and achieve the qualification.

Structured Workplace Learning is a requirement of this program. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 40 hours per year in a registered early learning centre. For those students going on to compete the qualification, these hours will count towards the mandatory 160 hours of placement that are a requirement to obtain the qualification.

Career Pathways

Completion of this VETDSS program provides students with the hours required to achieve the VET units for VCE VM.

Students may continue to work towards completing the Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care post their secondary schooling.

Completion of the qualification enables students to work in registered early learning centres, family day care and outside school hours care programs
