Course Description

This course will equip you with comprehensive skills and knowledge to enter the bricklaying or building trades. The course is designed to enhance your bricklaying and/or associated building trades prospects and give you an introduction to the industry specific trade skills such as hand and power tools and also the requirements of occupational health and safety procedures within the industry.

Career Pathways

The immediate pathway and career opportunity is into a full-time apprenticeship in bricklaying. Other career paths within the construction industry include building site maintenance, foremanship, building administration, estimation, building inspection, drafting (architectural) and electronic. Tertiary pathways/degrees qualifications include building, building engineering, building surveying, architecture, civil/electrical/electronics, interior design and mechanical engineering.

Program Requirements

Program Requirements This course includes the delivery of First Aid & Construction Induction (White Card). If you already have completed these units previously it is a great benefit! You MUST email vetinschools@gordontafe.edu.au your USI Transcript or Statement of Attainment prior to starting the course.


Additional Costs: Protective clothing and minor equipment may also need to be purchased.

Contribution to VCE

Contribution to VCE VM is determined by the number of units successfully completed. When a student has been assessed as competent in units totalling 100 nominal hours, this will contribute one VCE VM unit towards satisfactory completion of VCE VM.


On completion of the Certificate II in Building and Construction (Bricklaying Pre-apprenticeship) students will receive up to four units at unit 1-2 level, two units at unit 3-4 level and an ATAR increment (10% of the lowest study score of the primary four VCE studies undertaken).
