Course Description
This program provides participants with the knowledge and skills to achieve competencies that will enhance their employment prospects in the automotive industry. Training and skill development required to perform minor maintenance and repair of an automotive vehicle body. The range of technical skills and knowledge is limited. This qualification reflects the role of individuals who perform a limited range of tasks relating to identifying and inspecting mechanical and electrical components and systems of light vehicles, heavy vehicles, outdoor power equipment, bicycles, marine craft and motorcycles.
Career Pathways
This program will prepare students with a solid foundation of practical skills required to successfully gain an apprenticeship in the automotive industry within the automotive repair, service and retail sectors. School-based new apprenticeships may also be available in addition to entry-level employment. The qualification offers a number of pre-vocational outcomes that provide credit into apprenticeship qualifications.

Contribution to VCE VM is determined by the number of units successfully completed. When a student has been assessed as competent in units totalling 100 nominal hours, this will contribute one VCE VM unit towards satisfactory completion of VCE VM.
Contribution to VCE
On completion of the Certificate ll in Automotive Studies (Pre-vocational) students will receive two VCE VET units at units 1-2 level, and a 3-4 level sequence. An ATAR increment for unscored VCE VET programs will be calculated using 10% of the lowest study score of the primary four.
NB: These credits must be confirmed with the VET Coordinator at your school.
